Why Earthsight exists

The people most affected by AI are the last to have a seat at the table.

Workers, families, small businesses, educators, and community organizations across Northern Arizona are navigating one of the most disruptive technological shifts in a generation — mostly alone, mostly without support built for them.

Earthsight AI Consortium exists to change that. We're four practitioners who came up through the real world — fire science, sustainable building, land stewardship, community organizing — not the tech world. We know what it means to adapt. And we know how to help others do it.

"AI that grows from the community it serves, addresses physical needs, and stays accountable to the place and people it touches."

Based at Moonshot, Flagstaff's business accelerator, we're here for the long term — building the local AI ecosystem one person, one organization, one classroom at a time.

What we believe

Three principles behind everything we do.

Rooted in place
We're not a national firm parachuting in. We live here and we're accountable to this community for the long haul.
Technology in service of people
We don't lead with AI. We lead with the problem you're trying to solve. The tools come after.
Built for the ones left behind
We exist specifically for the people and organizations that aren't getting the support they need to keep up and who have the most to gain when they do.
Our approach

Responsible AI, built for a water-scarce, wildfire-prone, high plateau community.

Northern Arizona doesn't need AI adoption that's abstract or disconnected from local reality. It needs AI that's careful, useful, and accountable to the place it serves. Every project we take on is measured against four practical gates:

Truth & Verification
Human review for anything high-stakes. No black-box decisions.
Equity & Bias
Built and tested for everyone in this community, not just the easiest users to serve.
Privacy & Security
Data minimization by default. No surveillance-style deployment, ever.
Ecology
Every AI project is weighed against its water, energy, and waste footprint — not just its benefits.
Regional reality snapshot
Water scarcityFlagstaff has cut water use from 186 to ~84 gallons per person per day since 1988
Housing emergencyGoal: help 6,000 residents, create or preserve 7,976 housing units by 2031
Wildfire riskGuided by the Coconino County Community Wildfire Protection Plan
Climate goalCommunity-wide carbon neutrality target: 2030

We've mapped a full menu of illustrative pilot pathways — from smart permit routing to forest fuel mapping to small business AI copilots — each evaluated against these four gates before it goes anywhere near implementation. These are concepts for community benefit and safe deployment, not finished products — but they show the shape of what's possible when AI is built around a place instead of around a market.

Four specialists. One mission.

Each of us came up through the real world, not the tech world. Together, we cover the full arc from invention to education to community change.

Jason Jones
Jason Jones
Sustainability & Innovation
Jason is the proof that AI can build things you can touch. He turns it into food on the table and a roof over your head, making him the most powerful answer to anyone who asks whether any of this is real.
Norm Lowe
Norm Lowe
Community & Funding
Norm has spent a career getting people who disagree to build something together anyway. In a world where AI is politically divisive, that skill may be Earthsight's single most important asset.
David V. Moore
David V. Moore
AI Architecture & Systems
David understands how AI works at the system level and still believes it should be small, cheap, and available to everyone, giving Earthsight both technical credibility and the humility to be trusted.
Ariel Strong

Education & Communication
Ariel lived the experience of reinventing herself in the face of disruption. Multiple times. She doesn't just teach adaptation, she embodies it, and her students can feel the difference.
